In Hobart there was plenty of great running in the Cadbury Marathon Festival.

In Canberra we saw runners covering all four race distances. Some big PBs were run and Horrie completed the 50km adding to his incredible list of Ultra achievements.
They say that the City2Surf's famous Heartbreak Hill is one of the most challenging climbs in any road race. Well imagine running it non stop for 100k, that's 25 laps up and down!
Chasing a goal that many thought was unachievable, Jordan kicked off his run with a 3am start from the flat of Double Bay to the top of of the hill at Rose Bay Shops. Running through the night and into the next morning several runners from the squad and his Junior group Up And Running turned up to support throughout the day.
Completing the challenge in just over 11 hours, Jordan ran beyond all expectations, smashing the final 4km lap at 3 minute 30 pace, raising almost $50,000 for cardiac research at St Vincents Hospital and the Victor Chang Foundation.

SRI CHINMOY CROSS COUNTRY, CENTENNIAL PARK - BACK TO RACING
Finally we found a RACE in this year of disruption and uncertainty, and this is obviously what we'all were waiting for with some amazing running coming from all members of THE RUN SQUAD and our Junior Group UP AND RUNNING.
The morning started with the Half Marathon and we had 8 runners brave the 3 lap Cross Country Course around the trails of the Centennial Park. Our best result was from Nathan Tucker who finished in 3rd place in 1:26.38. Peter Craig wasn't far behind in his newly branded TRS kit finishing in 6th place in 1:31.58. Our first lady was Tania Drahonchuk (5th female 1:37.17) who paced with Julla La who finished just behind in 1:38.00. There was a family battle between Spencer Yuen (1:46.59) and Morgan Yuen who chased him to the finish to run 1:47.28. Rachel Craig in training for her big debut in Stromlo ran 1:51.07 and our mighty inspirational septuagenarian Paul Feain got through another Half Marathon distance in 2:36.18.
We were all guns blazing in the 14km Event with Gerber Koster in first place in a blistering 50:46. It's hard to imagine he will be running 100 miles in just 5 days. Matt Dawson always impressive ran 51:38 to take second place. Young Laura Roderick took out her first ever female number 1 spot and finished 5th overall in 58:41 paced by her good mate Ollie Freeman (58:42). Sarah Whitley (1:03.50) and Sophia Annette (1:03.55)demonstrated the effect of our Wednesday Night Track Sessions to finish 2nd and 3rd female, both top 10 overall. Tim McKinnon ran well to secure 9th place with 1:04.05. Brydan Lenne (1:13.21) and Ranu Harrison (1:15.45) also showed great form to earn top 20 positions and Millie Smith took her hubby for a run to finish in 1:18.14.
The 7km Race saw a number of our Juniors line up against the TRS adults. Lachlan Stanfield showed no respect to his elders by smashing the field by more than 3 minutes in a time of 24:17. Audrey Hall (27:37) is back in great shape finishing 2nd Overall and first female just ahead of Eva Laverty second female in (28:08). Amy Lam is also hitting some great form finishing in 10th place overall in a very quick 30:00. George Cooney had a great run to finish 11th in 30:53. There was a battle of the girls with Isabella Grace (32:18) holding out Kelsey Walton (33:13) in a race to the finish. Same for Larissa Williams (33:31) and Manal Garcia (34:31) who challenged each other throughout the course, and Rachelle McCue completed the course in a great time of 36:57.
Fresh from the NSW Cross Country Championships the Up And Running Juniors took on the fast and furious 4km Race with track veteran Brad Sharpe throwing himself into the mix as part of his 1500m preparation. In this event we took out all Top 10 places with Max Russell breaking the Junior Course Record in a time of 13:36, that's a cracking 3:24/km on a trail course. NSW Cross Country representative Natasha Ward was 2nd overall in 14:31. George Verco also on the NSW CC Team is back in great shape cruising around the course in 14:42 with a podium finish. In 4th NSW Junior Triathlon Champion Gracie Henry looked comfortable with 15:15. Little Piers Galvin shocked Brad Sharpe as he cruised by to take 5th place in 15:22 leaving Brad in 6th with 15:55. 10 year old Thomas Althundag was super fast with 16:21 in 7th. Lily Cooney was delighted with her 1st place U12 Female Age Group win (16:58). Zara Trantalis and Nancy Newton dead heated for 9th and 10th spot with 17:02. There were a couple of family battles on the track with Portia Palmerlee (17:54) holding out her sister Scarlett (21:03), but the challenge of the day was between little Tara Williams (18:56) who put her mother Bec Gee Williams (20:53) to the sword opening up a big gap in the early stages of the race.
It was great to get back out there and finally do an official race particularly in our favourite park. Well done everybody, bring on the next one!

We won't let Covid - 19 slow us down
2020 is proving to be testing us on many levels. First Australia was on fire and then the world is brought to it's feet by the Corona Virus.
At The Run Squad we have been very proactive in keeping our community alive starting an online platform for runners to follow solo or in pairs with a weekly program that can be adapted to any level of running and any training environment.
We have set personal goals and challenges to keep us motivated in a running world with no races to chase.
A major focus has been our Relay for Hope with more than 90 runners signed up to run in pairs around the streets of Sydney and it's wider suburbs covering more than 300km and raising money for the frontline workers of The Sydney Children;s Hospital and St. Vincents Darlinghurst.
Tania on the podium at the Australian Spartan Race Championships
Tania Drahonchuk has added to her extensive list of podium finishes in obstacle racing with a third place finish in the Australian Spartan Race Championships on a tough and technical course in the Blue Mountains.
Spartan races are a combination of running and strength with athletes running trough a course of stations that require climbing, hanging, lifting and jumping to name a few skills.
We are hoping that Tania's training with THE RUN SQUAD will help her to further excel in this sport.
